Throughout the novel we learn that the fire which erupted on Drift Ice Station Zebra was no accident at all; It turns out that Drift Ice Station Zebra was far more than a meteorologist station; And we will soon learn that not Carpenter nor the survivors are what they seem, and nothing should be taken at Face Value. It premiered at the Cinerama Dome in Los Angeles on October 23, 1968, where Rock Hudson was heckled at the premiere. The novel is referenced in " The Leadership Breakfast", the eleventh episode of the second season of The West Wing. When you are out at sea and your life depends on the guys around you, you quickly develop a family type relationship.

Considering books with wartime themes, Alistair MacLean is one of the few authors who understands and brings about the wartime scenario very well in his books. The Soviet interest in recovering the lost spy satellite is shown early in the film when a spy ship disguised as a fishing trawler waits outside Holy Loch when the Tigerfish sets sail.Moments before it is taken, Ferraday activates his own detonator, destroying the film and denying either side the locations of the other's missile silos. A satellite re-enters the atmosphere and ejects a capsule, which parachutes to Arctic ice, approximately 320 mi (510 km) northwest of Station Nord, Greenland in the Arctic Ocean ice pack. During the Cold War, a US nuclear submarine is dispatched on a rescue mission to an Arctic weather station. I like the interplay between the characters in this one and the descriptions of the ice pack actually made me feel COLD they were so good.

Dolphin happens to be by far the best submarine available that had any chance, albeit negligible, to find the lost station. Ice Station Zebra is a 1968 American espionage thriller film directed by John Sturges and starring Rock Hudson, Patrick McGoohan, Ernest Borgnine, and Jim Brown.What's worse, is that the last communication that was established with the station was of an SOS singnal being sent from there, for there had been a huge, savage fire in an accident which had ended up claiming several (currently number unknown) lives. But I have zero knowledge about this stuff and while I did by best to follow, there some things that were just hard for me to visualise. An attractive copy with some minor edge wear, some rubbing at crown and two old tape marks to reverse side folds. He expressed disappointment that the special effects did not, in his opinion, live up to advance claims, comparing them unfavorably to the effects in 2001: A Space Odyssey. The plot has parallels to events from April 1959 concerning Discoverer 2, a missing experimental US Corona satellite capsule that inadvertently landed near Spitsbergen, Norway, in the Arctic Ocean on April 13.
