I did think the chapters on numbness and shame were very, very excellent - this book will probably be life changing for some folks!

Don’t be afraid to care about people, to have feelings, to express emotion, to speak what’s on your heart, or to let people know what they mean to you. Yesterday, I got a box of advanced final copies, and I wrote some letters to people to give them as gifts. This book is a continuation of that re-learning, exploring the intersections of love and fear in self-esteem, friendship, family dynamics and romantic relationships, and extending out to its effects on society and the greater political realm. I think the telling can feel less immersive than the showing, however, I did agree with pretty much everything they told.

I consider my own bodily instincts and how my biological and psychological survival mechanisms endeavour to protect me.Zhu has access to therapy and a stable network of supportive friends; many of their marginalized peers do not. I do not live in a world without pain, and I cannot pretend that pain does not continue as I continue too.
